This area was earlier known for limited health facilities, but now the opening of modern medical colleges and hospitals here will not only benefit local students but also poor and rural patients will get better treatment.
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the first step to become a doctor in India today. Every year lakhs of students compete for MBBS seats. This exam is very important for the students of Assam, as this is the only way to get admission in the medical colleges of the state. Earlier, students of Karimganj and Dhubri districts used to go to big cities like Guwahati or Silchar for education, but now their difficulties are reducing due to the opening of colleges at the local level.
In this context, the name of Rashida Khanam is especially taken. Dhubri Medical College has been built under the “One District, One Medical College” policy of the Government of Assam. Modern labs, state-of-the-art classrooms and a hospital with more than 500 beds are also attached here. With this, people living in border areas who earlier had to go to Guwahati or Shillong will now be able to get treatment locally. This step is also important in districts like Karimganj and Dhubri because a large population here comes from poor and backward classes.
Participation of Assam students in NEET examination is continuously increasing.
